ABSTRACT. Linear, nonlinear optical properties, photon buildup factors, and neutron shielding capability of glasses with chemical composition (65-x)B2O3-10Sb2O3-25Li2O-xBi2O3, where x = 0 (BSLB0) – 20 (BSLB20) mol% steps 4 were examined. Molar refractivity (Rmolar) molar polarizability (αmolar) increased as Bi2O3 content increase in the examined BSLB-glasses. The values metallization criterion (Mcriterion) confirmed that BSLB-glasses non-metallic materials. static (εstatic) (εoptical) dielectric constants having same trend refractive index (noptical). Values electronegativity (χ*) reduced from 0.825 for BSLB0 (Bi2O3 mol%) to 0.758 BSLB20 glasses. linear electric/dielectric susceptibility (χ(1)) 0.370 0.397. (χ3) n2optical enhanced by increasing presented least exposure energy absorption build-up factors (EBF EABF) at all considered thickness. sample achieved best fast removal cross section ( ) shield among total stopping powers (TSP) follows (TSP)BSLB0 < (TSP)BSLB4 (TSP)BSLB8 (TSP)BSLB12 (TSP)BSLB16 (TSP)BSLB20. electron absorbing hence capacity improves their increase.

Mixed Alkali Effect in Li2O -Na2O-B2O3 Glasses Containing CuO-An EPR and Optical Study

The “mixed alkali effect” is one of the classical anomalies of glass science. We report here an interesting phenomenon “Mixed Alkali Effect” observed for a series of Cu ions doped xLi2O-(30x)Na2O-70B2O3 (5 ≤ x ≤ 25) glasses, investigated by EPR and optical absorption techniques. The EPR spectra of all the investigated samples exhibit resonance signals characteristic of Cu ions in octahedral sit...

Drastic Dependence of the pH Sensitivity of Fe2O3-Bi2O3-B2O3 Hydrophobic Glasses with Composition

Fe2O3-Bi2O3-B2O3 (FeBiB) glasses were developed as novel pH responsive hydrophobic glasses. The influence of the glass composition on the pH sensitivity of FeBiB glasses was investigated. The pH sensitivity drastically decreased with decreasing B2O3 content. A moderate amount of Fe2O3 and a small amount of B2O3 respectively produces bulk electronic conduction and a pH response on glass surfaces...

A New Faraday Rotation Measurement Method for the Study on Magneto Optical Property of PbO-Bi2O3-B2O3 Glasses for Current Sensor Applications

MAGNETO-OPTICAL current transformers (MOCT) based on the Faraday Effect provide numerous advantages over the conventional transformers. However the commonly used materials in MOCT are crystals that are very expensive and temperature dependence thus will cause many problems for the output signal. Cost efficient diamagnetic PbO-Bi2O3-B2O3 (PBB) glass system is fabricated in this study, for the ai...

Optical properties of Nd doped Bi2O3-PbO-Ga2O3 glasses.

The optical properties of a new family of neodymium doped BPG (Bi2O3-PbO-Ga2O3 ) glasses are presented. We measured a high refractive index, of 2.5, and a transmission cutoff in the far infrared at 8microm. Three intense emission bands are observed centered at 877nm, 1066nm and 1341nm. The emission cross-section is 10 -20 cm 2 and the total spectral linewidth is 30nm at 1066nm. The Judd-Ofelt p...
